Greed for what?

I am writing this article with the intention of all-inclusiveness in the first person so that you also read this in the first person. Greed A selfish desire for money, power and/or fame is what I consider greed. It is possible to be greedy for basics like food and clothing but the intention is self-gratification hence, it is a want and not a need for survival. Limitations of Greed If I look around me, all the survival basics are available free of cost with some exceptions.  The 5 elements (water, earth, air, fire and space) are all available in free of cost and in unlimited quantities. The consumption is limited to my needs. Role of Greed Greed starts with the thought of consuming more resources for more happiness. The mind's strange formula: more consumption = more happiness.  This formula only works until I stay within optimal limits, beyond that it becomes toxic either in a tangible way (disease) or intangible way (attitude, mental health issues). Utility of Greed The utili...

The Truth of Equality

Image
I am writing this article with the intention of all-inclusiveness in the first person so that you also read this in the first person. Equality Equality is a status which ensures that everyone is treated equally. Equality sounds good in theory but its not a reality and this is evident in the world. Nothing is equal, mostly everything is unequal. Somebody has more of something and somebody has less of something. Effort & Result Not everyone is willing to work hard and earn. The mindset and attitude of an individual have a lot to do. There are tons of motivational stories of individuals who have consciously gone against the flow. It required a lot of hard work and going through stress to manifest. The underlying fact is that those who did not settle have achieved something much greater and better than expected. There is natural inequality in the results too and it's visible. Getting results not only required hard work but also a complex thought process. Walking on a thin rope, the...

2 Major Flaws of an Extreme Mindset

Image
I am writing this article with the intention of all-inclusiveness in the first person so that you also read this in the first person. Mindset Mindset consists of beliefs that form a perception of the world and myself in it. It has an influence on thoughts, feelings and behaviour in situations. This means that what I believe about myself significantly impacts my success or failure. As we know there are mainly two categories of people, those with a growth mindset and those with a fixed mindset. In this article, I will learn about the problems with the mindset of an average person. These are 2 big problems which according to me have led to a surge in mental health problems, even more since the pandemic. Problem with believing that Everything is in my control When I believe that everything is under my control, the message that I give to myself and to those around me is that I have the superpower to control everything. The subtle belief behind this attitude is basically that I am either a s...

Denying short-term pleasures to attain self-control

Image
I am writing this article with the intention of all-inclusiveness in the first person so that you also read this in the first person. What is a Pleasure? Pleasure is a feeling of satisfying desires. It is a feeling that also triggers the reward system of the brain which releases the dopamine chemical. Pleasure comes from good smell, delicious food, appealing looks and anything else that feels good. Types of Pleasure Focusing on two main types in this blog which are short-term and long-term types of pleasures.  Short-term pleasures are those which can be experienced for a short span. As short as seconds to a few hours or maybe days but not longer than this. Most short-term pleasure would last less than a few hours depending on individual tolerance. Examples of short-term pleasures include alcohol, smoking, sex/porn, junk food and anything that is highly rewarding in a limited time span. Long-term pleasures are those which can be experienced for years and possibly even continue thr...

Change to give another chance

Image
I am writing this article with the intention of all-inclusiveness in the first person so that you also read this in the first person. Change is Constant I know this sounds very cliche, but it's true. Everything keeps changing and I cannot stop this cycle of change. What I can do is change with the change. This does not mean that I change my values and ethics which form the core of my existence. However, it is necessary to adjust to what needs to be done from time to time as per circumstances. A change in the ultimate goal is not the solution to challenges on the way, a change in attitude and a change in the process is where the magic lies. The process requires constant improvements to yield better and more sustainable results. Hence, please do not shy away from making changes to routine, diet, exercise, spiritual practice, etc. How to recognise that? Consciousness by having an inner dialogue with myself and spending more time alone to ask some meaningful questions. The answers are ...

The Long-Term Comfort of Discomfort

Image
I am writing this article in first person so that you read this in first person as well with the intention of all-inclusiveness.   What is comfort & what is the discomfort? In simple terms, comfort is a state of ease where I am stress-free. Discomfort is a state of uneasiness where I may be stressed to a degree which may be low or high at times. Why stay in discomfort if there is comfort? This is a good question, comfort sounds like the perfect scenario and it is to some extent but not all the time. I have met people from different walks of life and one key observation was that those people who had every type of comfort were not the happiest. The reason behind this in my understanding is that as a human being I need an enemy. Without this enemy or opponent, life will lack purpose. Comfort tells me that this loop (eat, sleep, party and repeat) is all that there is to live for but that's not true. I am not against comfort but, I am against too much comfort and minimum discomfort....

Failure builds immunity and strength. This immunity and strength forms the foundation of success.

Image
I am writing this article in first person so that you read this in first person as well with the intention of all-inclusiveness. How does failure build immunity and strength? Failure is part of life as much as success is. Without failure, I would not get the opportunity to find the right answer leading to success. Easy success on the other hand will someday lead to failure in a different aspect hence the struggle to some extent is important if I first learn what not to do. Then, I can identify what is it to do. During this process, I develop a hidden muscle in the mind and this muscle gets stronger after every failure if taken in the right spirit. I have to be super careful to take everything in the right spirit otherwise the world out there is anyways promoting and marketing cigarettes, alcohol, porn, junk food and even lifestyle. No offence to anyone. The only way to develop and by the way this hidden muscle is very essential because it´s simply not possible to be the best at everyth...
